Margarita Fernandes

Soloist

Margarita Fernandes is from Portugal and trained from the age of eight at the Annarella Sanchez International Conservatory of Ballet and Dance in Leiria, which follows the Cuban methodology of training. Besides training with resident teachers, Annarella Sanchez, Alexander Santana, Enrique Perez-Cancio, Elena Cangas and Raquel Aguero, her training was supplemented by guest Cuban teachers, Lienz Chang, Caridad Martinez, Ramona de Sá, Martha Iris, Rolando Sarabia, as well as those from the Vaganova and French schools, Julio Bocca, Misha Tchopakov, David Makhateli and Yannick Boquin. Since July 2020 she worked on classical 19th and 20th century repertoire daily with artistic director, coach and stager Maina Gielgud. She joined Bayerisches Staatsballett in season 2021/22. She was initially engaged by the Bayerisches Staatsballett as a demi-soloist and was promoted to soloist by ballet director Laurent Hilaire after the premiere of La Sylphide on November 22, 2024.
