WYLD it is, this world of emotions: Anger, joy, sadness, fear – plus everything in between and beyond! A day as an adolescent is an emotional roller-coaster, and this is precisely the journey that the recently developed opera takes us on – directed by Sarah Scherer and conducted by Gustavo Strauss. The Bayerische Staatsoper ensemble is just as much a part of it as the young people themselves are. Their thoughts flow into the development process of the musical theatre! A show that both plays out on the stage and in the audience’s heads.
This is Sarah Scherer’s second directorial work at the Bayerische Staatsoper (Der Mondbär, 2021); and, she created the videos for Get lost (2023). With WYLD she is responsible for developing the piece, the libretto and the staging.
Sarah Scherer is a freelance director, actress and video artist working in opera, theatre and film. Her short films, advertisements and music videos have been accoladed at international festivals. Gustavo Strauss is a composer and violinist with German-Peruvian roots. He is co-founder and composer of the “Paranormal String Quartet”. Music communication is a key element of his work. He has already designed several children’s concert formats, such as the “Zirkus Jazzino” programme commissioned by the Nuejazz Festival in Nuremberg.
