WORLD BALLET DAY 2023: "LE PARC" REHEARSAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Bayerisches Staatsballett is currently rehearsing Angelin Preljocaj's ballet Le Parc, which will premiere on Saturday, 25 November 2023, at the Nationaltheater in Munich.
On Wednesday, 1 November 2023, the Bayerisches Staatsballett will take part in World Ballet Day and offer exclusive insights into everyday training and rehearsals via stream from 12 PM to 3.20 PM.
REHEARSAL START "LE PARC"
Following the revival of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the Bayerisches Staatsballett is currently right in the middle of rehearsals for the first big premiere of the season – Angelin Preljocaj’s contemporary ballet, Le Parc. Created in 1994 for the company of the Paris Opera, the French choreographer has produced a sensuous interplay of amorous liaisons, tender love affairs and disappointed hopes. The starting point for the dance examination of the love theme here was literary and philosophical concepts of love and codes of conduct in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The lovers, named simply “him” and “her” in the piece, are rehearsed by Madison Young and Julian MacKay, Laurretta Summerscales and Jakob Feyferlik, and Maria Baranova and Jinhao Zhang. Isabelle Guérin and Ballet Director Laurent Hilaire embodied these roles at the Paris world premiere in 1994. Now Laurent Hilaire passes on his knowledge to the younger generation of principals in Munich. Also responsible for the rehearsals is Preljocaj’s assistant and rehearsal director, Naomi Perlov. The renowned choreographer will take care of the fine-tuning himself in the final rehearsal stage in November.
The courtly interplay between temptation and devotion is framed musically by various orchestral pieces by Wolfgang A. Mozart and the specially created sound design by Goran Vejvoda. The three pas de deux at the end of each of the three acts, which represent the phases of approximation, resistance and, ultimately, devotion, are based on the slow movements from Mozart’s Piano Concertos No. 14, 15 and 23. Dmitry Mayboroda performs the piano solos; musical direction: Koen Kessels.

For the 10th time now, the ballet world will once again celebrate World Ballet Day on Wednesday, 1 November 2023. Some 60 companies around the globe participate in this digital dance event, with ensembles all over the world providing insights into their everyday training and rehearsals.
The Bayerisches Staatsballett is also on board once again with the streaming programme, and from 12 pm to 3:20 pm will show excerpts from its everyday routine. First up will be the daily training, lead this time by ballet mistress Judith Turos. The dancers will then rehearse scenes from act 1 of Le Parc. In the following pas de deux rehearsal, Ballet Director Laurent Hilaire, who himself graced the stage in the male lead with the 1994 world premiere in Paris, will provide the principals Madison Young and Julian MacKay valuable tips and interpretation aids.
