UniCredit Opening Festival
Duration est. 4 hours 30 minutes
The Bayerische Staatsoper celebrates the new season’s opening on Saturday, 19 September 2026 with the traditional opening festival. The Nationaltheater will open its doors from late morning into the afternoon, promising countless surprises for one and all. It all kicks off with a big Bayerisches Staatsopernchor sing-along concert, together with the UniCredit Opera Choir and the Community-Bürger:innenchor Freiham choir, on the main entrance steps on Max-Joseph-Platz. And then it’s “open house” for one and all: Big and small formats, participatory offers, guided tours and surprising activities for both children and adults illustrate the diversity of the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Bayerisches Staatsballett and the Bayerisches Staatsorchester. Our peek behind the scenes is complemented by music, dance and opera interludes, inviting all interested to join in, lounge a while and look on. In the evening Gioachino Rossini’s opera, La Cenerentola, can be enjoyed in Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s much-loved 1980 staging. Jazz sounds will then accompany the audience into the late summer evening. The precise programme is still to be announced.
