Marco Goecke

Marco Goecke was the in-house choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet and the Scapino Ballet for many years, Associate Choreographer at the Nederlands Dans Theater, Resident Artist at Gauthier Dance and Director of the Staatsballett Hannover from 2019 to 2023. In twenty years he has created more than 80 works. These include commissions for many international companies such as Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, the Paris State Opera Ballet, the Vienna State Ballet, the Norwegian National Ballet, the Pacific Northwest Ballet Seattle, the ballet of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, the Staatsballett Berlin, the Hamburg Ballet, the Ballett Zürich, the São Paulo Companhia de Dança and the Bayerische Staatsballett. Many of his works are rehearsed by other companies. Marco Goecke has received numerous international awards, including the Prix Dom Perignon in 2003, the Kulturpreis des Landes Baden-Württemberg in 2005, the Nijinski Award in 2005, the Dutch Dance Prize Zwaan in 2017. In 2017 as well as in 2021, he was voted Choreographer of the Year in the international critics' poll of Tanz magazine. In 2022 he was awarded the Kylian Ring. In the 2021-22 season, he created the choreography Sweet Bones' Melody as part of the three-part ballet evening Passages at the Bayerisches Staatsballett. In June 2023 he curates the programme for the first edition of Spheres.
