Bayerisches Staatsorchester 2024–25

The history of the Bavarian State Orchestra began exactly 500 years ago. The year 1523 marks the beginning of institutionalised music-making by an instrumental ensemble at the Bavarian court, and the nucleus of today's Bavarian State Orchestra was born. From its humble beginnings in a courtly context, it gradually developed into a grand opera orchestra, which soon began to perform symphonic works on a regular basis. Since the early 19th century, the orchestra has given the first public concert series in Munich as part of the Musikakademie. Today, with members from twenty-four nations, the Bavarian State Orchestra is one of the world's leading orchestras. Equally at home in the orchestra pit or on the concert stage, the orchestra's excellence and versatility are appreciated worldwide; since 2013, it has been voted "Orchestra of the Year" nine times in a row by 50 international critics in the magazine Opernwelt.

Following a series of special concerts and events during the anniversary year - including a summer tour of European music capitals - the 2024/25 season seamlessly continues the diversity and excellence for which the orchestra is renowned in Munich and around the world.

Great symphonies, outstanding soloists and exciting newcomers in the Academy Concerts promise exciting evenings of famous and rare works, shedding new light on seemingly familiar compositions in sometimes unexpected combinations. Exquisite chamber music formations, from string and wind quintets to horn ensembles and grand octets, will perform in the Court Chapel of All Saints and the Cuvilliés Theatre. The thematic concerts will once again bring together music and science. We are also looking forward to the youth projects with the Hermann Levi Academy and the ATTACCA Youth Orchestra.
