INTRODUCTORY EVENT TO TCHAIKOVSKY OVERTURES

The production team shares insights into the upcoming production.

Mainly in English.

At the introductory matinee to the upcoming ballet premiere Tchaikovsky Overtures, dancers from the ensemble will show choreographic scenes from the new creation by Alexei Ratmansky. Pianst Dmitry Mayboroda accompanies the dancers, playing the title-giving Tchaikovsky fantasy overtures. From the Shakespearean world, you will recognize some of the characters and moments from Hamlet, The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet in the dance. Two singers from the opera studio, Elmira Karanakhova and Aleksey Kursanov,  will perform an excerpt of the Romeo and Juliet duet. In between, the artists talk to dramaturg Serge Honegger about the rehearsal process, the role of classical ballet today, the music of Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky and Alexei Ratmansky's language of movement. The conversations are mainly conducted in English.
