On October 29, 2026, the curtain will rise on the first premiere of this season. Director Tobias Kratzer and General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski continue their work on Der Ring des Nibelungen with Richard Wagner’s music drama Siegfried, shedding light on Siegfried’s development into a hero against the backdrop of the gods’ reign, which is threatened with decline. Benjamin Bruns makes his debut in the title role, Simone Schneider takes on the role of Brünnhilde, Nicholas Brownlee sings the Wanderer, Matthias Klink returns as Mime, and Georg Nigl portrays Alberich.
With Lucrezia Borgia, Gaetano Donizetti created a highly virtuosic work centered on the legendary Italian princess Lucrezia Borgia—a piece that combines the thrills of an opera thriller with the vocal virtuosity of bel canto. Look forward to seeingAngela Meade in the title role, Erwin Schrott as Don Alfonso, and Liparit Avetisyan as Gennaro this October.
“Thus the dynasty of the gods perished like a dying breath”: These words from the final scene of Richard Wagner’s Götterdämmerung serve as the poetic theme of our new season. Learn more about this in our season overview and browse through our program, which features ten opera premieres, two ballet premieres, a ballet gala, numerous concerts, a diverse selection of repertoire performances, and Der Ring des Nibelungen.
